Have you ever wondered how many state parks there are in the US? Or how about the top 5 most visited states? Great, us too! With Americans looking to do more domestic travel this summer, we thought we’d round up 5 fun US travel facts to know before you go and get out there!
There are 8,565 US State Parks
According to stateparks.org, there are 8,565 state park areas that collectively cover 18,694,570 acres of US land. The state that has the most state parks is California with a whopping 278! These include parks, beaches, historic parks, recreation areas, natural reserves, vehicular recreation areas, a historical monument, state seashore, wayside campgrounds and several parks that remain unclassified. State parks attract millions of visitors each year for day trips, golfing, camping and more. The first state park (and perhaps one of the most popular) that was created by a state that still exists today is Niagara Falls in New York.
I-90 is the longest interstate in the US
The highway spans all the way from Boston to Seattle which is 3,020.54 miles. The freeway passes through Washington, Idaho, Indiana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. One of the last sections of the highway to be built was the bypass of Wallace, Idaho which wasn’t complete until 1991. Traveling across I-90 would make for an incredible 4+ day road trip. There’s no shortage of things to do along the route of I-90 from “The Waterpark Capital of the World” in Wisconsin Dells, to a museum dedicated solely to Spam, to a statue of the Jolly Green Giant; we’re sure you’ll find fun for the whole family.
On average, nearly 100 million Americans plan a family vacation each year
That’s a lot of vacations! Though Wally-World may not exist outside of the National Lampoon universe, there are all kinds of theme park family vacation destinations across the US. Of course, Walt Disney World and Disneyland are at the top of the list who welcome 78 million visitors per year, combined. Our Fox Dream Team is no stranger to Disney-centric family vacations and our Royal package becomes more and more popular each year allowing our travelers to sit back and relax while we take care of park tickets, magic bands, dining reservations, lodging and more. Another brand of popular theme parks are the 6 Flags Parks in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma and Texas. In 2019, they reported their highest attendance yet at 32 million. Seems to us that theme parks are the place to be!
